Honda Expo 2021 Time Attack Autocross Format
Time Attack Autocross Classes and Rules
On July 18, 2021 Honda Expo hosts the first ever Honda/Acura Time Attack Autocross Competition at Evergreen Speedway. This will be held alongside our Honda/Acura car show at the venue.
Autocross and Time Attack are both extremely popular on their own but for this event we are combining them in order to put on the best show possible for the spectators in attendance. For people versed in autocross, this is similar to an Enduro style with a warm up lap that is NOT timed followed immediately by 2-3 timed laps (number will be determined in Driver's Meeting).
The course and cones will be setup like a traditional Evergreen AutoX layout where the start and finish are at the same point. Timing is does using high end transponders that Evergreen uses for their NASCAR series.
NO COURSEWORK
One of the best parts of autocrossing at Evergreen Speedway is that you are not required to work when you are not driving. Their staff will be on track making sure that cones and the track is set back up between drivers.
TIMING PENALTIES
Knocking over a cone or missing a gate will invalidate your run and will be noted on the timed score. In the event that cones or gates are a factor in all of your runs a 2 second penalty will be assessed for cones and 10 seconds for gates. It will likely be impossible to win any award with a run that is not CLEAN. On the short course we are running missing a gate is essentially a DNF as it would be impossible to make up the time. If you hit and knock over a cone on your first warmup lap it will not be set back up for you and will only cost against your time if you end up missing a gate or would hit it again if it was present (there will be marks on the ground the courseworkers will be watching).
NOVICES WELCOME
Even if you have never participated in an autocross before, we are encouraging you to sign up and compete anyway. We will have Veteran autocross drivers at the event that will be willing to help you get started. Our head autocross organizer will also do a course walk in the morning and will give tips to Novices. At minimum we will have a Fastest Novice award and if enough sign up we may have a Novice award for each class.

Honda Expo 2021 Official Event Coverage
What an interesting couple of years we have all had. The last Honda Expo we were able to host was in August 2019 which feels like forever ago.

We always try to put together judging criteria that is fair and awards the top builds in each class.
Is there a wagon class?
We do not intend to have a wagon specific class for Autocross. It will fall into the 01 and under or the 02 and over classes. We are strongly considering then breaking apart these classes based on engine modifications.
What time does the AX event start, what time do we need to arrive for safety check, course walk, etc?
We’re almost done with the schedule but the back gate should open around 930am for tech and everything else. Course walk will probably happen around 10am. First run groups will start around 11am.
IMO FWD Honda’s/Acura’s that came with k series are also heavier than golden era b series cars but k swapped h swapped j swapped golden era has the power/tq and the lightweight personally as a non vtec b series golden era I think an RSX or Ep3 is a more even match than any k swap car I’m just not really sure how FWD 01 and older being separated from 02 and newer is an even playing field meaning you could have k20a swapped crx vs a single cam EK same class yet not even close power to weight and that’s not even factoring in turbocharged super charged etc for FWD I think motor that came with the car except Dohc vtec models type s, si, type r, etc so single cam eg ej ek non vtec ls/rs/gs Integra non vtec prelude/accord/cl, rsx non type s all newer civic non si non type r and non vtec dohc swapped b20/b18 eg/ek etc all in one fwd class similar to the original group n2 vtecclub and then one class with dohc vtec but original motor/era only so rsx type s Ep3 si vs em1 civic si or ek with b16a swap dc2 gsr prelude and accord vtec then your k swap into different era and power adders turbo super etc and your type r’s just my opinion tho always thought that seemed a good system/classes
JP,
Appreciate the feedback! We fully intend on developing these classes for future events but being that this was our first time doing this we wanted to keep it simple and have enough cars in the classes to make them interesting. We were trying to avoid having 2-3 cars in a class which then makes it nearly an automatic award for almost everyone.
Being our first Time Attack AutoX the Honda/Acura field is still fairly small so in future years if we can get an entire 70-80 car Honda/Acura group we will come up with thought out classes that address what you brought up. Thanks again and we look forward to having you on Sunday!
If we are signed up to drive in the autocross, will we also be able to check out the show without paying extra for the spectator tickets?
For sure! Once you get inside the gates you can walk around and check out the show off to the side of the grandstands.
